Obesity
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat and/or body water. Both terms mean that a person's weight is greater than what's considered healthy for his or her height.

Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might tip the balance include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods and not being physically active.

 »  CAUSES
It is a disease of the persons who avoid physical work or exercise. Constant use of heavy & high fat foods, not doing of physical exercises or manual work and leading lethargic/comfortable life style etc. However, Obesity may be the cause in some patients may due to irregular secretion of Thyroid gland. Obese in patients is found to be one of the causes due to Hereditary.

 »  PREVENTION
Prevention is always better than cure. Inviting obesity is inviting many diseases. These include hypertension, heart failure and diabetes. People with obesity may suffer from sterility. This is because the meda dhatu (adipose tissues or fats) in the body blocks all the bodily channels called srotas and hence further nourishments of the dhatus (bodily vital tissues) like spermatozoa and bones are stopped or not properly performed.

One has to perform exercises on daily basis. Physical work is indeed needed leaving the sedentary lifestyle. Control over too much fatty, starchy and oily food may help. Try to avoid too much sleeping especially straightaway after having meals. Daily brisk walking is one of the simplest ways to get rid being over weight.

 »  REMEDIES
At first obese patients are kept on fast for three days. During fast lemon water is given 3-4 times a day. Daily cleansing the bowel with lemon water enema is also beneficial. Restrictions are made after the fast to diet for dalia at one time while to fruits on the other and boiled vegetable for a week; thereafter the patients may gradually come back to the diet of whole wheat bread and green vegetables leading the process nearly for 15 days.

Patients are advised to have food in diet with low calorie and to adopt life style full of physical work and exercise. Hip bath, mud pack, steam bath, leman water enema etc. are given as per doctor advice besides yoga therapy.
